Shaarika Kaul

I have spent the last four years reporting about others’ stories, so let me walk you through mine.

I was never supposed to follow the path of journalism, but I fought hard to keep it. Despite being sure that I was going to pursue a career in the medical field, I stuck with the art— and I’m glad I did. I have learned so much and have picked up skills from every class I was in. From my initial two years in broadcast, to yearbook, and finally newspaper, I have experienced journalism in a variety of ways. Interviews taught me to have a conversation and really listen instead of hosting a Q&A session. These skills will follow me through my life while growing and adapting to the circumstances they are used in. I am grateful I followed this journey and for the opportunities these programs have given me.
